When this woman was two years old her veil caught fire and she was severely disfigured.
We met her in Mizan Teferi during our campaign. She sat at our clinic for days. We thought she was waiting for a family member until she removed her sunglasses.
Our local ophthalmologist Dr Abu Beyene contacted his colleague Dr Einar Erickson at the Korean Hospital in Addis and after some time we arranged for her to have reconstructive plastic surgery. An EFA volunteer donated $2000 to cover all costs.
Last report a few years ago said she is living in a small village with her mother and is running a business making Injera flatbread.
She has retained some sight that has enabled her to live independently.
