John O’Brien and I first met in 2006 by a chance meeting in Lalibela, at The Jerusalem Hotel in Ethiopia.
He was the reason I was able to start the Eyes for Africa Charitable Foundation, having introduced me to Professor Redda in Buta Jira.
We were like minded people, always willing to go the extra mile to make a difference to the lives of other peoples.
John brought over wheelchairs from Ireland for the disabled, improving their mobility and giving them dignity.
We met from time to time and shared many great stories of the success and struggles of his charity and EFA.
He passed away peacefully at his home. A life well lived. Never forgotten and always close to my heart.
